The Awista has announced a large-scale operation in which bulky rubbish caused by the heavy rain will be collected on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout the city. According to the company, 723 registrations had already been made on Friday afternoon (0211/830 99099). In addition, containers are placed in the Ostpark settlement that are emptied as required. Larger objects (more than one meter) should be parked separately; they are disposed of with press vehicles on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Electrical devices should be placed in front of the front door.

The campaign reaches a dimension that, according to Awista spokesman Ralf Böhme, is new to the company. “We will be traveling all over the city with 20 vehicles. Many volunteers from the garbage disposal have agreed to take part. ”In addition, vehicles would still have to be borrowed, and some normal garbage trucks would also dismantle the dumps so that they could also be used. Because actually the Awista doesn’t have that many bulky waste transporters. In addition, the regular bulky waste is booked out all week without flooding anyway, and therefore the damage caused by the storm can be repaired with additional staff, especially on the weekend.

Once the registrations were received, the urban area would then be divided into clusters and the teams of four employees would be sent on different routes. A total of 80 employees will be working on this alone. In addition, there is the commitment for the Ostparkiedlung. The collected bulky waste is then immediately taken to the waste incineration plant.

It is still unclear what further dates there will be for key actions as a result of the floods. Böhme estimates that next weekend could be the case, as regular operations will continue during the week. “That is still open.” It is possible that something will be possible in the next few days. You can then register by telephone via the service center.

The Awista points out that only bulky waste and electrical appliances are taken with you. Paint buckets, other pollutants and construction waste are not collected.
