The information was published by Cebia, a company that checks the origin of cars. Compared to the first half of the year, the average number of used kilometers traveled decreased by 5,000 to 161,000 km, which, according to the lower offer of new used vehicles, may mean, according to Cebia director Martin Pajer, that tachometers are turning more.

“People are not willing to pay more for cars with a higher mileage, so tachometers are manipulated to make the cars more marketable at the desired price,” he said. Diesel cars had an average of 47,000 kilometers driven than petrol cars.
–
Frequent concealment of accidents also adds to higher prices. In mid-September alone, the company discovered 2,443 accidents and damage worth a total of 231 million crowns in cars from abroad. The share of used cars that are said to be crashed was 0.7 percent on large advertising portals. In fact, about 25 percent of five-year-olds are involved in an accident or damage; in the case of 10-year-olds, about 60 percent are after an accident or damage.

Demand for used cars picked up in the third quarter, leading to a reduction in average sales time from 106 to 98 days compared to the first half of the year. In a year-on-year comparison, however, used cars were sold 15 days longer. “Spring demand, which was dampened this year due to coronavirus, has thus moved to the summer months, when many people bought a car for a holiday trip, or people used the days off to choose a used car,” added Pajer.

Due to coronavirus measures, there is instability in the second-hand market this year. The main reason is the smaller offer due to the lower number of imported used cars and also the less willingness of people to exchange their cars for newer ones during this period.
–
The largest drop in imports was recorded in April, when 53 percent fewer cars were imported to the Czech Republic year-on-year. It was not until September that the number of used cars from abroad increased by four percent year on year. A total of 114,493 used cars were imported to the Czech Republic this year, ie 21,490 fewer cars than last year, which is a year-on-year decrease of 16 percent.
–
The share of used cars from abroad accounted for about half of the offer on the used car market. In addition to cars imported this year, cars imported in previous years are also being resold. 21 percent are cars from Germany, or those for which the seller declares German origin.
–
Diesel cars, which accounted for 55 percent of the market, still dominated the offer this year. The share of petrol cars was 43 percent. The best-selling model was still the Škoda Octavia (12 percent). Škoda cars accounted for 24 percent of the offer, Volkswagen cars nine percent.
