Ahead of the inevitable MCU crossover, Marvel Comics’ two memorable superhero teams, the Avengers and the X-Men, reunite for a memorable cosplay photoshoot.
As mutants begin to make their way across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the long-awaited live-action crossover Avengers and the Uncanny X-Men is finally coming true. While perhaps two of the most iconic teams in comic book history, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and Children of the Atom couldn’t be more different. The government-funded Avengers are often praised and celebrated for their heroic endeavours, while the X-Men remain a group hated and feared for their mutant abilities, generally operating on the fringes of society, legitimacy, and even brutality. When the Avengers and X-Men cross paths, it’s often a hostile gathering before the two sides combine to unite against threats that absolutely demand their disparate powers.
Cosplayer and digital artist @wens.1998 (Wens Universe) cosplay event titled “The Age of Heroes” features Captain America, Cyclops, Spider-Man and Wolverine standing together against a backdrop of a crumbling cityscape. Since the X-Men are naturally relegated to their own corner of the Marvel Universe, a splash page with four for each team is a sight usually reserved for larger event comics like the original Secret Wars, House of M, and AX: Judgment Day. .
While Marvel Comics and its beloved Marvel Studios film division have begun to feature dark teams like the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Eternals, and the Lightning Bolts in recent years, the Avengers and X-Men will always have a special place in the hearts of Marvel Comics. .. many readers. The Avengers may not have had the presence of the X-Men before the MCU, but it didn’t take long for the team to become an international household name. As heroes facing constant discrimination, the X-Men and their supporting characters represent ever-present social themes/concepts in the public consciousness. As an established collective, The Avengers brings together Marvel’s best heroes for the price of one on a monthly basis. Even if fans are years away from an Avengers/X-Men mash-up on the big screen, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and their mutant allies will continue to inspire legions of fans to create their own Marvel adventures.
