The «Ave Sol» chamber choir sings war-themed scenes to music / Article

At the “Magnificat” concert of the latest concert program of the “Ave Sol” chamber choir, Latvian choral music, compositions of world classics, as well as Ukrainian baroque music that has not been performed in Latvia so far, brought from Ukraine to Riga by the conductor Sergiys Zadorozhnijs, a pupil of Andras Veismanis, will be performed. They are three works by anonymous authors from the early 18th century.

He gave us very interesting music that very few people know about. One could also say that it was written only very locally in the Lviv region,” says conductor Andris Veismanis. “We think it’s a very nice present for both Ukrainian refugees in Latvia and Sergiy. We worked on pronunciation and style. We corrected the score because it was created by merging multiple parts found in different libraries. And finally, the score is formed.

The concert will also feature the work “Eternity Praise of Jesus” by French composer Olivier Messiaen, written in a POW camp during WWII.

Wager in contrast to the somber moods, you will also hear the lighter-toned work of Italian composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and English composer Edward Elgar. Contemporary music will instead be represented at the concert by the compositions of Jēkab Jančevski and Arvo Pert.
