As specified in a press release by the Consistory, there are four large-scale performances, signed by large companies such as Titiritrán Teatro, Escenario Pedagógico, Conchinchina and Teatro La Paca. Today it was the turn of the first, at the Darymelia Theater, with her play ‘Arturo y Clementina’.
The plot of this story revolves around two turtles in love who decide to share their lives. Clementina is cheerful, lively and dreamy and Arturo carries the responsibility of maintaining her and offering her everything that he considers valuable on his shell. But the criteria of both are very different.
While Clementina wants to feel art and life creating, Arturo only values the already consecrated culture and laughs at the ingenuity of his partner in wanting to develop different artistic activities. Clementina carries the prejudices and insecurities of her partner on her back, until she is totally imprisoned. When Clementina runs away from that suffocating protection, Arturo does not understand how she rejects all his efforts to provide her with a gifted life full of valuable objects.
The author of this creation is Adela Turin, Italian writer and art historian, who created a series of children’s books called ‘In favor of girls’, this series was a benchmark for coeducation and equality. Today these books are in full force and are still needed.
The main objective of Adela Turin’s stories was to build a better, more equal world, free of sexist stereotypes and discrimination. ‘Arturo and Clementina’ is perhaps one of his most recognized stories in the world. The quality and message of this story has earned it awards such as the Fetén Special Prize, in 2016, for its sensitivity in addressing the issue of psychological violence and for its six-handed musical-theatrical staging.
It also has the Honorable Mention for its quality as a children’s show in the 33rd edition of the Theater Fair in the South 2016, Alcides Moreno Award 2017 to the story curiously told by the Area of Culture and the Center for Performing and Visual Arts of La Rinconada, the recognition of the artistic commission of the Spanish Network of Theaters, Auditoriums, Circuits and Festivals of Public Ownership, and having been selected to be part of the cultural offer that the Department of Cooperation and Cultural Promotion of the Spanish Collaboration Agency International for Development.
‘Arturo and Clementina. Concert for piano and theater of objects’ is possible thanks to Pedro Antonio López and Maruja Gutiérrez, responsible for the direction and performance, with Héctor Márquez, at the piano, and its quality has earned it being selected for the demanding offer of the Autumn Festival which, during this weekend of the 28F bridge, capitalizes on the cultural offer of Jaen.
