A Mayor’s Representative, a CPS Representative, a religious leader, a women’s representative and a craftsmen’s representative. This is how the members who make up the “Municipal Committees for monitoring activities in Safe Spaces” present themselves, established in the 33 municipalities of the Northern Zone of intervention of the SWEDD-BENIN Project. And it is at the end of the information laboratories for the municipal administrations and the participatory actors in the realization of the sub-project ”Life Competence and Reproductive Health”, and on the activities within the Spaces for which the program “Altra vita” Group is responsible in Northern area of intervention of the SWEDD Project.
It is in an attempt to strengthen the synergy of bottom-up actions with local actors in the 33 municipalities of the North, that these “Municipal Committees for Monitoring Subproject Activities” chaired by the Focal Point of the Municipality, have been put in place, with a plan action to be implemented. Among other things, they will come to support the village committees already in place, in order to strengthen the participation of all local authorities in the attendance and permanence of the AJFs within the Safe Spaces.
The initiative to organize community workshops held in the 33 municipalities of the North has the objective of informing and sensitizing local actors and grassroots communities on the “Life and Health Skills Reproductive” sub-project, the activities carried out and the prospects for encouraging their adherence to the ideals of the sub-project, strengthen the participation of all local authorities in the presence and maintenance of AJF within the Safe Spaces. Furthermore, it aims to strengthen community involvement in the evolution of sub-project activities in order to achieve better results.
In fact, since the operation of the “Safe Spaces” in the Northern area, real changes have been observed in the way of life of adolescents and girls, and in fact, in their community. The words of some parents, workshop owners and religious leaders testify to this.
From municipal authorities to religious leaders, through agents of the republican police, collectives of artisans, women’s groups, etc., all have been sensitized and brought to their attention on the benefits of the Project for the entire nation.
It should be remembered that the SWEDD Project is funded by the World Bank with the technical support of UNFPA and WAHO, and implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Microfinance.
