The automotive and motorcycle industry is experiencing the largest decline in turnover in 25 years

Importers of new passenger cars are being hit hardest. The dealers saw turnover plummet by more than 40 percent. Corona closed car factories and consumers and lease companies bought fewer new cars. The closure of many car factories also caused the trade in car parts to decline.

In addition to fewer passenger cars, fewer commercial vehicles and buses were also sold. Turnover in this sector fell by 26 percent.

Companies that trade and repair passenger cars achieved almost 4 percent growth in turnover in the first quarter, but were hit hard in the second quarter: turnover fell by more than 21 percent.

Less gloomy

Entrepreneurs in the car and motorcycle sector were particularly depressed in the second quarter: their confidence dropped to minus 46.9. For the third quarter, however, they are a lot less gloomy with a confidence figure of minus 9. That is also better than the minus 19.3 for the entire business community. 3.2 percent of automotive entrepreneurs expect revenue growth in the third quarter.

They also see the future a bit brighter for the staff than in the recent past. Three months ago, 38 percent of companies thought they needed less staff, now it is 11 percent.
