Sadness.The fate of Peiners who emigrated to America in the mid-19th century is described by the author Barbara Ortwein on Thursday, May 5th at 7:30 p.m. in the Peiner District Museum in Peine. Excerpts from the first volume of her Texas saga, which deals with emigration, will be presented in a reading. The reading is organized by the District Homeland Association of Peine.

Peiner became a city co-founder in the USA
The German author, who comes from Westphalia and now lives in Prague, follows the emigrants from the city and district of Peine as she reads. Between 1844 and 1847 they embarked on an arduous journey to America and to the cities they helped found, today’s New Braunfels and today’s Fredericksburg.
Exciting family stories worked up
Barbara Ortwein carried out extensive research in Texas and Germany for her exciting Texas books “Between the Worlds and Never Back Again”, “In the Middle of Texas and Yet Not at the Destination” and “At the End of the Road: Texans Forever!” incorporated some family stories – including the Peiner emigrants – into her historical novels.
