Austrian skier Marco Schwarz became the winner of the giant slalom of the World Cup for the first time in his career. In the American resort of Palisades Tahoe on Sunday night, he beat the leader of the overall ranking and the discipline Marc Odermatt from Switzerland by three hundredths of a second. Norwegian Rasmus Windingstad finished third with a deficit of +0.36.

The bronze medalist from “Obrák” at the recent WC in France was in third place after the 1st round, but he finally climbed to the highest level during his 17th career podium appearance. “Amazing. It was a big fight today, especially the second lap. I made a small mistake on the flat, so I went aggressive after that. I’m very happy with my first triumph.” according to fis.com, Schwarz, who took care of Austria’s first victory in the giant slalom since 2019, was looking forward to it. At that time, Marcel Hircher, who has already ended his career, claimed the championship.

The new world champion Odermatt was leading after the first lap, but in the second he made a mistake at the top and extended the track. Finally, he can at least enjoy the fact that he extended his streak of podium positions in the giant slalom to 16.

In addition, he increased his lead in the fight for the big crystal globe over Aleksander Aamodt Kilde to 386 points. The Norwegian took 24th place in the American center. Odermatt’s main opponent in the fight for the small globe, Henrik Kristoffersen from Norway, took 4th place.

“The second run was really bad from my side. I made too many mistakes, I was actually surprised that it was enough for the podium at all. The track of the 2nd round was a bit stupid, I had to push three times on the flat. But the best won” evaluated the race Odermatt.

Slovakia was not represented in the competition. On Sunday, slalom is on the program.
