“Something like this will not happen during my term as chancellor,” said Sebastian Kurz.

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz is reluctant to provide protection to more refugees from Afghanistan, although power has been seized by the Taliban, the DPA reported.

I do not think we should accept more people in Austria, on the contrary, said Kurz in an interview with the TV channel PULS 4, which will be broadcast later today.

With more than 40,000 Afghans already admitted, Austria is home to the EU’s second largest Afghan community, per capita.

Kurz has consistently rejected the admission of more Afghans. “Something like this will not happen during my term as chancellor,” Kurz said.

He also mentioned the “particularly difficult integration” of this population group. Admitting people who then cannot integrate is a huge problem for us as a country, the chancellor said.

According to Kurz, there is no doubt that the Taliban are cruel and living conditions in Afghanistan are terrible. However, the head of government called on the international community to do everything in its power to improve the crisis situation in this country.

However, Austria must also acknowledge that many things are in foreign hands. Not everything is within our capabilities, stressed the Austrian leader.

Kurz reiterated the proposal that people from Afghanistan receive assistance in neighboring countries. In this regard, he mentioned Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and said that the EU should support countries in the region. / BTA
