Australian Open 2021 Up to 600 players and workers to be tested
All tennis activity which was set to take place on Thursday, ahead of the Australian Open, has been cancelled after a member of Grand Hyatt’s hotel staff has tested positive for COVID-19.
The aforementioned hotel is one of the main residences where players and staff members went into self-isolation after flying to Australia for the first Grand Slam of the year.
Consequently, up to 600 players and staff will have to stay at the hotel until they test negative for coronavirus, as they are all considered casual contacts.
“Health Authorities have advised us that a Hotel Quarantine worker has tested positive for COVID-19,” tournament organisers posted on Twitter.
We will work with everyone involved to facilitate testing as quickly as possible.

“Those associated with the AO who quarantined at the hotel now need to be tested and isolate until they receive a negative test result.

PCR tests have been scheduled to take place on Thursday for players and staff, with several members of the Spanish ATP Cup team such as Roberto Bautista, Pablo Carreno and Pepe Vendrell, all staying at this hotel.
Carlos Alcaraz and his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero also reside there, as well as Albert Ramos and his coach Jose Maria Diaz.
Meanwhile, despite staying at the Crown Towers Hotel, Rafael Nadal could also be considered as casual contact after training with his Spanish teammates.
