Australian National be the last country to announce his squad for World Cup 2022. There are no surprises from the 26 names.
Quoted by the official website of the Australian Football Association (AFC), on Tuesday (8/11/2022) WIB evening, Australia will be led by Matthew Ryan as captain and goalkeeper.
Ryan is the oldest player with 75 appearances for FC Copenhagen. On the back, senior defenders like Aziz Behich, Milos Degenek, Bailey Wright, Fran Karacic and Harry Souttar are still the mainstays.
In midfield, Celtic FC midfielder Aaron Moy is still relying on alongside Jackson Irvine, Ajdin Hrustic and Riley McGree. Matthew Leckie, Awer Mabil and Jamie MacLaren will be the attackers on the attacking line.
Australia included four players who had only one presence, such as Keanu Baccus, Cameron Davlin, Jason Cummings and Garang Kuol. Kuol is only 18, meaning he was born in 2004.
Of the 26 names, 16 play in Europe and the rest play in the Australian League, Japanese League and MLS.
Graham Arnold’s Australia are in Group D with reigning champions France, Denmark and Tunisia. Their inaugural match at the Al Janoub stadium, Al Wakrah, will face France on 22 November.
