When some viewers watching a television program on a public channel complain that he was miserable again, those who were happy with it advise them to use the controller and turn the television on or off. However, the “squirrels” rightly object that they do not have to pay Czech Television to switch it off. All the more so because if the state leadership constantly encourages them to stay at home (in as few numbers as possible) instead of celebrating together, the state-run station should offer them a quality spectacle.
Instead, on the last day of the year, she served them the usual sale (Bohouš), recycling of popular formats (Miracles of Nature, Všechnopárty) or the would-be New Year’s Eve show, deceptively called “The biggest party with Jiřina Bohdalová”. Although a similar dramaturgical key was offered by all other nationwide television stations, the one to which people are obliged to contribute with concession fees should have tried harder. But the CT leadership has long since found out that they don’t have to try harder, because most of the nation will be happy to spend everything it serves.
Defeated Bohhdalka
And so this year the ranking of viewers was again dominated by Christmas fairy tales and the New Year’s Eve (but only in the category of entertainment programs) sad show on ČT1. Although more than 1.6 million concessionaires did not miss it, it was not as overwhelming a victory as in the case of the premiere of the Christmas fairy tale. All the more so because in terms of the number of spectators, most of them, almost two million, watched the national anthem with a midnight toast and “Bohdalka” was even beaten by New Year’s Eve “Televizní noviny” in Nova. This has repeatedly confirmed that the most attractive “info” and “reality shows” offer news formats on Czech screens.
Absurd comedy
And certainly not everyone who watched the public New Year’s Eve show was satisfied with its level. On the contrary, the ones they really liked are a minority. A significant part of them was embittered by the fact that the chosen spectators in the hall (who took part in the filming this November) did not have veils, while they have to spend the whole evening in veils when visiting a theater or concert. On the usual assurances of ČT that everything was in accordance with the valid rules, they were rightly asked why the audience watching StarDance had to have veils. “Please don’t make more absurd comedies. Either the rules apply to everyone or no one, “ Mr. Radek F., for example, commented on Facebook by ČT.
The younger generation was very dissatisfied, rightly pausing that the Czech Television thinks only of the older generation. They often take the view that the Czech Television did not benefit the legendary actress herself, who celebrated her venerable 90th birthday in May this year. According to them, the wise principle applies, “what is too much is too much”. And very unflattering responses on social media prove it.
Total trouble
Television critics did not like the New Year’s Eve program of the Czech Television either. Even some independent media, commenting on television production only exceptionally, have stopped over it. For example, the editor of the opinion daily “Forum 24” Vilém Besser is also convinced that Czech Television should do everything to ensure that viewers do not even think of switching it. Although she does not see anything wrong with the fact that she shot a show for the jubilee of an important actress, according to him, it was not appropriate to broadcast it on New Year’s Eve. In the end, he complained that the peak of the evening had the attributes of a total mess and added: “The biggest party with Jiřina Bohdalová was a disappointment and a demonstration of the path that public television should definitely not take.”
