Latvian Singers Battle Genres in New Music Show "Projected Voices"
Eight of Latvia’s most beloved musicians are stepping out of their comfort zones for a thrilling new singing competition, "Projected Voices," airing on Latvian Television (LTV) every Saturday night, starting November 30th. This dynamic show sees each contestant tackle a different music genre each week, performing iconic songs from rock to folk and everything in between.
The premiere episode featured a captivating lineup. "The Show Must Go On" by Queen, delivered with powerful vocals, secured actor Maksims Bussel the top spot in the audience vote.
"I’ve always admired Queen’s raw energy and Freddie Mercury’s vocal prowess," said Bussel. "Embracing a rock anthem for my first performance was a thrilling experience."
Andris Baltachis, lead singer of the popular band "Baltie lāči," placed second with his soulful rendition of Ray Charles’ "Unchain My Heart" while opera singer Brigita Reisone surprised audiences with her energetic take on Muse’s alternative rock hit "Supermassive Black Hole," earning her a deserved third place.
"Projected Voices" isn’t just about audience appeal, as the competitor’s performances are judged by a seasoned panel of experts including renowned musician Marija Naumova, comedian and jazz musician Andris Freudenfelds, and rock music authority Uldis Marhilēvičs. The judges’ top three differed slightly from the audience’s choice, with Reisone taking the lead, followed by Baltachis and then Aija Andrejeva with her spirited rendition of Tina Turner’s "Proud Mary."
The diversity of musical styles showcased by the participants has already made "Projected Voices" a captivating watch for Latvian audiences. Week after week, viewers can expect surprises and captivating performances as these talented musicians push their limits and explore new artistic territories.
