The Audi RS 3 has a record on the Nordschleife, it is the fastest compact

The northern loop attracts records of all kinds of categories, and now has a new king among compact cars of serial production. The new generation RS 3 defeated the current record holder, Renault Mégane RS Trophy-R, about 4.63 seconds. At least the French hatchback has a triumph between the front wheels, as Audi drives all four wheels.

According to the carmaker, the car was, of course, completely standard during the record drive, except for the driver’s seat and the racing cage, for safety reasons. Before the record-breaking lap, Frank Stippler’s team only adjusted the pressure in the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slick tires according to track conditions.

“The new RS 3 is much more agile when driving from the center of the curve to the end and when accelerating outside the curve,” Stippler compared the novelty with the previous generation.

The sedan, like the related hatchback, is powered by a 2.5-liter supercharged five-cylinder. It has an output of 294 kilowatts, 400 hp from 5600 to 7000 rpm and a torque of 500 newton meters. All-wheel drive boasts a new sports rear differential. Using the lemels on both sides, it actively distributes power between the rear wheels to the point that in certain situations it can transfer full power to one wheel.
