The Audi Q6 e-tron: A New Era of Electric Mobility with PPE Platform and E3 Electronics Architecture

The Audi Q6 e-tron is the first model series built on the newly developed PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform and the new E3 electronics architecture.

The interior of the new Audi Q6 e-tron model series is now even more tailored to the needs of the driver. For example, the high-contrast three-dimensional design deliberately creates a spatial architecture, while providing perfectly tailored aesthetics and ergonomics for the driver and passengers. Unified design

The cozy atmosphere of the cabin is complemented by clear textures. The so-called Softwrap permeates the entire cabin – from the doors to the center console, creating a uniform and cozy feeling of space. Colors and high-quality materials, some of which are made from recycled materials, are also used in the seats.

One of the main goals was to highlight the materials chosen in the salon and their quality. Interior decoration has now become a functional design element. This design philosophy not only provides a feeling of spaciousness, but also comfort and coziness.

The overall appearance is harmoniously complemented by the low and thin horizontal ventilation openings. The controls are integrated into the door handle on the driver’s side as a “black panel” and perfectly match the modern interior. These controls allow you to control essential functions such as mirror settings, seat and door functions, as well as light and visibility settings.

Sustainable aesthetics

Some of the finishing materials used are produced in a sustainable way. For example, the Softwrap included in the S line version uses recycled fabric Elastic Melange, which is made of 100% recycled polyester. Sports seats with contrasting seams are also available as optional extras in Elastic Melange fabric. Argument fabric is also made of the same material, available as an option for the standard seats and ceiling trim.

Instrument panel surfaces are available in a subtle volcanic gray as standard, and some of these surfaces are made from renewable raw materials. These surfaces are also available in wood, either in natural ambergris (sweetgum) in a light brown color or in birch stone gray color, as well as in matte aluminum in anthracite color.

In the S line and S model cars, customers can choose between brushed aluminum in anthracite color, carbon microfiber structure or high-tech mesh in anthracite color. The latter is an innovative, technical-looking polyester fabric with a distinct structure and a new look, which is made from recycled materials. Audi Q6 e-tron floor mats are made of Econyl material. In the production of this material, old fishing nets, carpets and industrial waste are recycled.

Spaciousness and comfort

Thanks to the new PPE platform, which has been specially developed for electric mobility, the car also has a spacious interior that not only looks good, but is also roomy and at the same time very suitable for everyday use. The center console has two cup holders, a cell phone charging pad and two smartphone charging ports. The cabin also has the additional legroom characteristic of an electric car, which makes it easier to get into the back seats and makes sitting in the back especially comfortable. The capacity of the luggage compartment is 526 liters. When the rear seat row is folded down, the luggage compartment capacity increases to 1,529 liters. Another 64 liters of storage space is in the front luggage compartment under the front hood.

MMI panoramic display

The Audi MMI panoramic display and the MMI front passenger display are perfectly integrated into the design concept and give the cabin a feeling of spaciousness and lightness. The slim, free-standing Audi MMI panoramic display has a curved design and OLED technology and includes an MMI panoramic display with an 11.9-inch Audi Virtual Driver Information System and a 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen display. Special ambient lighting creates the impression that the curved display is “hanging in the air” at night.

The 10.9-inch MMI front passenger display is perfectly integrated into the dashboard design. Active privacy mode with shutter technology allows the passenger to watch movies undisturbed without distracting the driver. At the same time, it allows the passenger to help the driver, for example with navigation.

The Q6 e-tron’s optional augmented reality (AR) eye-level display (HUD) on the windshield projects a large, vertical image plane that displays essential information to the driver, including speed, road signs, virtual assistant and navigation icons. The new HUD creates the impression that the displayed objects are up to 200 meters away and that they interact with the surrounding environment.

Interaction light and a self-learning voice assistant

The interaction light (PPE) performs three main functions. First, it illuminates the cabin, for example with a welcome function, and indicates when the car is locked and unlocked. The PPE blends with ambient light so that when the former is inactive, it appears the same color as the latter. PPE also helps in terms of safety – for example, it visualizes dynamic turn signals. This light also visualizes other information, such as the car’s charge level and charging progress, which is displayed as a pulsating light.

Q6 e-tron users can control many of the car’s functions via Audi’s voice assistant, both online and offline. The digital assistant is deeply integrated into the car, and now for the first time it is represented by an avatar on the instrument panel and in the augmented reality head-up display. The user activates the assistant with the phrase “Hey Audi”. It can also be activated using various other touch points and the myAudi app. Spoken commands are also shown on the display as text. The digital assistant continuously learns from the user’s behavior to offer the best possible support.

Thanks to the app store, users can use many of their favorite apps on the car display. Using data transmission, passengers can access popular third-party apps on the MMI touchscreen. Selected apps are installed in the Audi infotainment system without the need for a smartphone.
