A large chain of hypermarkets in Romania has announced that cash registers will be abolished, and customers will scan their purchased products themselves, after which they will make the payment.
Auchan has announced that the FOTO Facebook cash registers will be abolished
Customers who stock up in Auchan chain stores will have to wait less in queues thanks to a modernization process aimed at refurbishing the cash registers. A 100% self check-out route is being built for customers. The solution proposed by this modernization is a flexible one, being made up of self-service boxes suitable both for a small number of products and for larger purchases. In these conditions, the formation of queues is avoided and the waiting time at the houses is reduced.
Regarding customer complaints related to the abolition of cashiers, Auchan stated that “all the employees in the cash register area are evolving towards a new job, that of adviser, their new role being to provide advice and support to customers”.
“We’re going to end up arranging the products on the shelf all over again”
The announcement gave rise to a series of reactions on the Reddit platform. “Some people really liked those lines at the checkout. Where is the satisfaction of shopping if you don’t scream at least once “but let’s open a house, sir! I don’t see how many of us are staying here?!”.
„Normally, this removal should be accompanied by an automatic discount, a 10% discount at the end of the receipt, because you scan everything anyway, but the supermarkets have also increased the prices insensibly, now they are also cutting staff costs, wouldn’t prices should stay the same”another user commented, according ziare.com.
“I, for one, waste extra time and it annoys me to look for which side the codes are on the product, where the water onion and red onion are on the scale. I’m not good at it and I don’t want it to be part of my skill set. I feel like the stores have increased their profits on my back. The country is full of hypermarkets every 300 meters, it means that Romania is a profitable country for them. Then let him put his hand to pay some cashiers. Following this trend, we will end up arranging new products on the shelf, possibly even sweeping at the end of the shift”stated another customer.
And on Auchan’s Facebook page, customers expressed their displeasure and called for a boycott:
– I don’t step on you anymore! Ideally, no customer would ever come to you!!!
– You don’t make us do push-ups? Shame on you!
– A bad idea, not to say directly stupid! I do not understand the purpose of such an approach! Worse it confuses. An idea that seemed very good to me were the fast checkouts where the employees quickly scanned the products and then you went to the payment machines with the receipt.
– Leave the cashiers, there is no benefit for the customers to remove the cashiers! Let the customer choose the payment method, you are at the customer’s disposal!
