The Attraction of Sciences Po Nancy: A Hub for Franco-German and European Studies

It is now a tradition. Once the qualification barriers of the prestigious institution have been crossed, it’s time for a bit of conviviality with a first day of welcome and integration. This Friday, August 25, more than 175 students came to discover the Nancy campus of Sciences Po. And, this is a first, parents were also invited. “Some students come from the other side of the world,” reveals François Laval, the campus director. The Europe and Franco-German area specialization attracts those young people who are interested in the creation of the European Union. A confirmed interest for Tomoyo, a student from Kanagawa, Japan: “I chose Sciences Po Nancy because I study French culture in Japan, but also because I want to understand how two countries that were once at war succeeded to make peace. »

From Metz and Kazakhstan

The event of this return to Sciences Po is the presence of Aïdana, 17, and Lyubov, 18. Both girls are from Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan. A question arises: why travel 6,500 kilometers to study? Aïdana says: “I would like to pursue a career in international law. The example of peace between Germany and France is inspiring. The mutual aid of the countries that are part of the European Union is a model and I would like to contribute to bringing my country into the European Union. Lyubov continues: “I have always wanted to know how governance works in Europe to understand if the methods are adaptable to my country. Germany has one of the most stable economies, France leads in terms of citizenship and civic engagement. I would like the experience of these countries to benefit Kazakhstan. Lou-Salomé is a child of the country. Originally from Metz, the young woman brilliantly obtained her Abibac (culmination of studies followed in a Franco-German binational section). She explains her choice: “Sciences Po Nancy is a continuation of my career. I was attracted by the teaching of social sciences and humanities specializing in Franco-German and European issues. I had the chance to do an internship at the European Parliament and that confirmed my choice. »

Thursday, August 31, students from Sciences Po Nancy will make their solemn return. It will take place this year in the presence of Mathias Vicherat, director of Sciences Po, Richard Laganier, rector of the academic region Hélène Boulanger, President of the University of Lorraine and Mathieu Klein, Mayor of Nancy.
