The attacker stabbed two people at the former editorial office of Charlie Hebdo, the police have a suspect

A man and a woman were injured in Paris in an attack investigated by the anti-terrorist prosecutor’s office. An attacker, apparently armed with a cutting or stabbing weapon, seriously injured both people on the street in front of their workplace. Le Figaro informed about it. The place is in the neighborhood of the former editorial board of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, which was the target of an assassination in 2015.

Police arrested a man with blood on clothes shortly after the attack, but his description did not match the attacker’s description. Another suspect was later arrested.

The motive for the incident is not yet known. The Ministry of the Interior created a crisis group and Minister Gérald Darmanin took office quickly. Prime Minister Jean Castex was also present at the meeting, and the two later went to the scene. Authorities have closed schools in the wider area of the attack and children are not allowed out. This applies to several thousand children.

Le Figaro wrote that two people were injured, both of whom needed urgent treatment, but their lives were not in danger. According to French media, the attacker attacked them in front of their workplace in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. It is the seat of Premières Lignes, which operates both as a press agency and as a production company.

What weapon was used is not clear except that it was not a firearm. Some witnesses likened her to a cleaver, others saw a bloody man with a knife running out of the subway. The nearest metro station to the place is Richard Lenoir, and Le Figaro wrote that a cleaver was found in front of it.

At the scene of the attack, a special unit also checked the suspicious package. The laboratory confirmed that it did not contain explosives.

Whether the attack is related to the events surrounding Charlie Hebdo is not yet certain. In 2015, the magazine’s editorial office became the target of a terrorist attack in which 12 people died.

In early September, a trial began in Paris with a group of 14 people accused of involvement in the assassination attempt and the related terrorist attack on the Jewish grocery store. On the day of the trial, the satirical magazine reprinted cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, the first to be published in 2005 by the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten.

Charlie Hebdo Human Resources Director Marika Bret has now received new threats that have forced her to leave home for shelter.
