Novak Djokovic wrote a new page in tennis and sports history a month ago, when he became the first player of the open era to have won all four Grand Slam tournaments at least twice.
The Serbian phenomenon then won a 6th title at Wimbledon, reaching 20 Majors and equaling the record he now shares with his two great rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
The world number 1 has a serious chance of achieving the “calendar golden Grand Slam” this year (by winning all 4 Grand Slam tournaments as well as an Olympic gold medal), which is why he decided to go to Tokyo to compete in the Olympic Games.
The 34-year-old from Belgrade had no trouble dealing with Bolivian Hugo Dellien in the first round of the competition, and despite the strong heat wave that reigned on the court. Nole, who aims to win his very first gold medal, is one of the most popular figures in the Olympic Village, so much so that a myriad of athletes have lined up to take a photo with him.

If he wins Olympic gold and the 2021 US Open title, the Serbian will become the first male player to achieve the the Golden Calendar Slam in the history of sport (after Steffi Graf, for the ladies).
With this, he will also become the second player to win all four Grand Slam tournaments in a single year after Rod Laver in the Open era. Indeed, the Australian legend accomplished this in 1969.
