Novak Djokovic wrote a new page in tennis and sports history a month ago, when he became the first player of the open era to have won all four Grand Slam tournaments at least twice.
The Serbian phenomenon then won a 6th title at Wimbledon, reaching 20 Majors and equaling the record he now shares with his two great rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
The world number 1 has a serious chance of achieving the “calendar golden Grand Slam” this year (by winning all 4 Grand Slam tournaments as well as an Olympic gold medal), which is why he decided to go to Tokyo to compete in the Olympic Games.
The 34-year-old from Belgrade had no trouble dealing with Bolivian Hugo Dellien in the first round of the competition, and despite the strong heat wave that reigned on the court. Nole, who aims to win his very first gold medal, is one of the most popular figures in the Olympic Village, so much so that a myriad of athletes have lined up to take a photo with him.
Among them is Frane Kojic, who represents Croatia in table tennis. Interviewed by ‘Sporstke Novosti’, Kojic revealed that he ran into Djokovic almost by accident.
Frane Kojic spoke about Novak Djokovic
“I managed to take a picture with Novak Djokovic. There are an incredible number of people around him, he probably took 5,000 pictures,” Kojic revealed.
“I walked up to him and said, ‘Novak, may I have a picture with you, that’s the only reason I qualified for the Olympics’ He laughed and replied:’ Of course (for the photo)! ‘ “added Frane Kojic.
Derwael recently shared a photo on Instagram of herself doing the splits with Djokovic. “When @djokernole asks for a photo, you can’t refuse,” she joked.
At the same time, Iranian basketball player Amir Arsalan revealed that he missed a golden opportunity to take a selfie with Djokovic. “Can’t believe I missed @DjokerNole last night he was chilling out near their resort (less than 10 yards away).
Maybe he’ll be in the same place tonight? I need this photo please, “he wrote on Twitter from the hottest tennis player. The Tokyo 2020 Olympics is more than a gold medal for Djokovic.
He is aiming for the Golden Grand Slam which would be even more prestigious, even if the Serbian champion can also and still achieve the calendar Grand Slam with the 4 Grand Slam tournaments, if he wins the US Open 2021.
King Novak has already won 3 Grand Slam titles this year after his recent success at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. If he wins Olympic gold and the 2021 US Open title, the Serbian will become the first male player to achieve the the Golden Calendar Slam in the history of sport (after Steffi Graf, for the ladies).
With this, he will also become the second player to win all four Grand Slam tournaments in a single year after Rod Laver in the Open era. Indeed, the Australian legend accomplished this in 1969.
