A fairytale marriage turned into hell
It is more than clear that the return to the homeland was not rosy. “In the beginning it was a lot of glory, we brought medals, and then it started and I was out of work for five years,” recalled Věra, for whom the most important thing was family. The beautiful relationship between two athletes was first born to a daughter, Radka, and then to a son, Martin. Čáslavská always wished satisfied and happy family. Unfortunately, what started as a fairy tale turned into hell. He was not only jealous of his wife’s achievements, he mentally tortured her, was aggressive, drank alcohol and also cheated on her. However, Vera stubbornly stuck to her principles and did not want to break her marriage vow. “This relationship was the most difficult test I had to overcome,” Čáslavská admitted with a gap of years. She swayed to divorce only after the insistence of the children, who saw how their father trampled their mother.
