The municipality of Petit-Saguenay is losing one of its entrepreneurial flagships, following the announced closure of the Ateliers Bois de Fer, located in the heart of the village in the building that once housed the grocery store.

LThe announcement was made discreetly on January 22 on social media as owners Didier and David Gaudreault confirmed the closure of the company which specializes in making handcrafted furniture from raw wood adorned with wrought iron and various decorative objects.

According to the information circulating, differences of opinion and professional reorientation have led to the closure of the company.

Asked to comment on the file, the mayor Philôme La France admits that he fell backwards when he learned of the decision. “For Petit-Saguenay, it was a flagship, a company that emerged in an original project. We were stunned by the news ”.

According to him, the cabinetmaking and forging activities demanded a lot of time from the Gaudreault, which made it difficult to keep the company at arm’s length.

Philôme La France adds that discussions have taken place with the two entrepreneurs in order to begin steps to try to find buyers interested in the forge and cabinet-making trades or even business people who would show interest. for the building and operation of a company within its walls.

“We would like to see a company set up that brings dynamism with products that match the Petit-Saguenay mission,” he says.

He mentioned the possibility that Petit-Saguenay could intervene to develop a business incubator formula, but there was no question for him of leaving a building unoccupied for a long time in the center of the village.

It was not possible to reach the two owners for their comments.

Last summer, the two cousins were optimistic after signing a distribution agreement with the regional channel Gagnon Frères just as the pandemic was in its infancy.
