The Federal Roads Office plans various motorway expansions in the Bern area:
The conversion of the breakdown lanes into lanes between Wankdorf and Muri is being implemented.
47 objections are pending against the expansion of the Wankdorf connection. The expansion is to be realized from 2026. For the Astra, the Wankdorf expansion and the Bern-Ost bypass that the city is longing for are linked. The critics do not see this connection.
The core of the expansion is the widening of the Grauholzautobahn from six to eight lanes today. It could be implemented from 2027. In a later phase from 2030, the section between Schönbühl and Kirchberg is to be expanded from four to six lanes.
The bypass east is a 2.7 km long tunnel between Ostring and Muri. In return, today’s A6 is to be dismantled into a road. bob
