A bus-sized asteroid will fly past the Earth on Thursday, July 7. The facility will be located approx. 89 thousand. km from our planet, which is about four times closer than the Moon.

An asteroid named 2022 NF was spotted just a few days ago. According to the calculations NASA the object will safely bypass our planet. Closest to Earth 2022 NF will be on Thursday, July 7.

A bus-sized asteroid
Astronomers discovered the asteroid using data from the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) – a system of cameras and telescopes in Hawaii whose main purpose is to detect near-Earth objects, i.e. NEO (The. Near-Earth-objects).

According to estimates, the space rock is approx. 5.5-12.5 m long. According to NASA standards, it is therefore too small to pose any threat to us (potentially dangerous asteroids must measure at least 140 m).
–
The flight of the object can be tracked in real time via Virtual Telescope. 2022 NF will fly past the Earth at a distance of approx. 89 thousand. km. For comparison, the distance between our planet and the Moon is 384.4 thousand. km.
