The Association of Friends of Santiago’s road has decided not to wait for the aid of 50,000 euros committed by the City Council and has opened this Tuesday the hostel located in the Casa de los Cubos, on Fernán González street. The space has been adapted to the measurements of prevention from Covid-19 and the entity has removed its three workers from ERTE in order to provide a service to the pilgrims who pass through the city of Burgos, many of them from other countries. as remarked by its president, Jesús Aguirre, in an interview in Hoy por hoy Burgos.
Members of the collective have previously visited shelters in other cities to learn how they have adapted the anti-Covid protocols. Aguirre has warned that we must not only think about the attention to the pilgrims this year. As he has pointed out, we must not lose the perspective of 2021 as Jacobean Holy Year and that Burgos is “one of the most symbolic cities” on the Camino de Santiago.
All accommodations and expensesAt the moment, they have run on behalf of the association until the help of the City Council arrives, which Aguirre recalls that it was approved in plenary session. In any case, the president of the Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago requests the Consistory to take charge of the maintenance and cleaning of the public elevator that connects Fernán González with Valentín Palencia, attached to the shelter, because it is an expense that they cannot afford any more.
