SPACE — On January 9, 1643, Italian astronomer Giovanni Riccioli saw a strange light shining on the night side of Venus. He named it The Ashen Light of Venus or the Pale Light of Venus.
At that time astronomers had seen it periodically. But after that, no one else could find it. To this day, no one knows for sure what causes the Ashen Light.
At first, people wanted to attribute the strange light to the optical quality of the telescope that discovered it. But now, many believe the light is related to thunderstorms on Venus.
Some people also associate it with Aurora like on Earth, due to the interaction of solar radiation with the atmosphere of Venus. Whatever it is, Ashen light has been a scientific mystery for centuries. Source: Space.com
