Under the title ‘An exhibition without architecture‘, the artist Xabier Salaberria (San Sebastián, 1969), presents eleven groups of works that include Photographs, facilities Y objects belonging to different series, but with the same spatial logic, in which importance is given to subject: You have the responsibility to imagine and speculate.
The sample includes both works ancient of the artist as the memory of previous proposals, to which the artist gives great importance: “Sometimes the residues of the piece are more valuable than the property,” the artist explained.
The author brings to the fore the space, their walls, heights, tours; and how these elements condition the behaviour and the way of looking and feeling the proposals: “I don’t like to mark the order and I want everyone to go the way they want —and adds—, it is the own look of a concrete subject the one that has to imagine and speculate “.
Salaberria’s exhibition leaves room for speculation and how the architecture, the exposition and the distribution of works influence the reading of the subject. The mental image brings the subject closer to a abstract space in which the objects are free of the spatial conditioner, say in their statement the Artium
Salaberria’s work moves between the fields of sculpture, design and the organization of spaces: architecture. In 2008 he was recognized with the GureArtea Award, in 2009 received the Creation grant from the Marcelino Botín Foundation and in 2011, the Art and Research Scholarship from the Montehermoso Art Center in Vitoria-Gasteiz. In addition to the Artium Museoa collection, his work is present in public collections and museums such as the MACBA of Barcelona, the Marcelino Botín Foundation of Santander, the TEA, from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Sabadell Collection, or the Museum of Fine Arts Y Guggenheim museum from Bilbao.
The exhibition will be in the Sala A1 of arts from this friday until October 3 of 2021 and is curated by the director of Artium Beatriz Herráez and Enrique Martinez Goikoetxea
