The Artist Who Lived in Two Countries: The Life and Career of Boris Sichkin

The artist tried to live in two countries.

The Soviet Union learned the name of Boris Sichkin thanks to the film The Elusive Avengers. In the adventure film, he played Buba Kastorsky, whose witty quotes immediately went to the people. After the release of the picture, he took part in the films “The Path of Selfless Love”, “Intervention” and other famous projects and dreamed of building a career in his homeland.

But in 1973, a criminal case was opened against the artist and sent to a Tambov prison. As Sichkin later noted, the charges were fabricated, but he still spent several years in prison and was finally acquitted only in 1979. And after that, he emigrated to the United States with his family.

In the new country, the screen star almost immediately found a job. He was lucky to star in five films where he worked, for example, with Anthony Hopkins. And the experience of working in Hollywood left an indelible impression on him, because the shooting there takes place in complete calm and without nervous tension, unlike the USSR.

And, despite all the love for the United States, he still regularly returned to his homeland. And during frequent trips, he starred in domestic films. Viewers could see him, for example, in Poor Sasha.

Boris Sichkin passed away in 2002. Until his last days, he lived in New York, but continued to come to Russia, where loyal fans and interesting projects were always waiting for him.
