Antoine Buquen was born in Pont-l’Abbé in 1991, and turned to photography after studying applied art. Art he developed in Toulouse, London and Madrid, experiences that led him to be interested in different ways of life and to question the relationships of individuals with their land. He has produced and presented several series shot in Ireland, Norway and Brazil. To go further, he undertook training in anthropology, to strengthen his photographic practice and to recreate the reality and experience of the people he meets.
An in-depth look at the untold aspects of adult family life
Like his other photo projects that question identity and its relationship with the environment, “Jeu d’enfant” allows Antoine Buquen to explore his “family area” and building his own identity. “This series, produced 8 years ago, plays on photos and looks between me and a member of my family,” explained the photographer. The idea is to questioning the primacy of the parent nucleus and the direct parent-child bond, compared to other relationships within the family, especially between brother and sister. Some of these pictures were already exhibited in London and were at it was at this time that the New York gallery became aware of my work.
Family trip to New York
The exhibition at the Artifact Projects gallery in Manhattan was delayed due to the health crisis. It finally happened between August 7 and 24. Antoine Buquen went there to hang his paintings and be present for the opening. “My parents also made the trip to see the pictures in which they are portrayed. It was a beautiful and funny way to complete this project on family ties in the hidden family of Bigoudène, where verbal communication is limited, “says Pont-l’Abbiste. The story is not ready until completely, because he plans to continue now that the family has grown when grandchildren have arrived.
