Professional soccer K-League 1 Suwon FC defeated K-League 2 Busan I’Park in the second round of the 2023 season K-League promotion play-offs and succeeded in remaining in K-League 1.

Suwon defeated Busan 5-2 in the second game of the ‘Hana One Q K-League Promotion Playoffs 2023’ held at Suwon Stadium on the 9th. Suwon is ahead of Busan 6-4 in the combined promotion and relegation playoff scores, and will also play in K League 1 in the 2024 season.

Suwon was in a bad mood as they lost 1-2 to Busan in the first leg of the promotion play-offs, but they made Suwon fans happy with a miraculous victory in the second game.

Although Busan’s Kim Jeong-hwan scored a header goal in the 9th minute of extra time, Suwon responded with a key goal. In the 12th minute of the second half of extra time, Yoon Bit-garam’s mid-range shot fell in front of Lopez, who pushed it in to bring the win.

Immediately after the game, Suwon FC coach Kim Do-gyun said, “It was a difficult game as we conceded goals first, but (the players) worked really hard in the second half, so we were able to win. All the players showed fighting spirit, and that fighting spirit was the main factor in the victory.” He continued, “I think there needs to be a lot of change in one way or another. A lot of thought and effort is needed to make it a team that can remain in the first division and compete,” and promised to do better.

Meanwhile, K League 2 Gimpo FC lost 1-2 to Gangwon FC and failed to seize the opportunity on the brink of promotion. Although the first half ended at 0-0, Gimpo failed to advance to the K League 1 stage by allowing two goals to Gangwon Gabriel. However, it is evaluated that he had a successful season as he ranked 3rd in the K-League 2 regular round and played in the promotion playoffs in just his second season as a professional player.
