The art of grapes in the Sala Princesa Zaida |

From 8 to 30 September 2022

Since 8 September, the exhibition hall of Princesa Zaida in the capital of Cuenca has hosted the exhibition Vidartis: The art of grapes. A project born within the Julián Soler Winery to disseminate and promote the importance of must and grapes.

An exhibition consisting of 30 works in which the artists of La Mancha Coco Escribano, José Bernad or María Dolores Alfaro participate together with 11 students of Fine Arts, who use grapes and must as pigments.

At Vidartis they use the natural coloring of their grapes to create art. The grapes grown in Castilla-La Mancha are a tribute to our land and to the work of our people. This exhibition is attended by a selection of students from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Cuenca, who have created unique works using must as a pigment.

Through a research project coordinated by Professor Ramón Freire, it was possible to stabilize the must as a pigment. Its application in various techniques of graphic expression of value to an ancestral and traditional crop such as the Manchego vineyard. Try to give visibility to the Castilian grape-La Mancha through the hands of different artists, the grape becomes the protagonist of some paintings that come to life. Intense purplish tones are obtained with the Garnacha Tintorera variety, as well as reddish tones with the Bobal grape. Airén white offers ocher and golden tones. With the branch, shades of black are obtained using charcoal techniques.

Vidartis combines two concepts that seem antagonistic, such as agriculture and art, through the use of must as a pigment in different techniques of graphic expression.

Agriculture and art go hand in hand in every Vidartis work, where its must and the natural materials of the vine are used as pigments. An original and innovative type of art, which connects the viewer with our roots, those of the Castilian-Mancha culture.

Works full of life and emotions, which tell where we come from.

It was a totally crazy and disruptive idea that I fell in love with and fell in love with from the first minute. The idea of painting with must ».

The first creation was a Christmas. That fir had a deep purple color that transported me to our vineyard and made me feel different emotions. I decided to continue developing the idea and contacted the first artists. A year later, we can enjoy this first collection of Vidartis works. An original and innovative type of art, which connects you with our Castilian-La Mancha roots. Works full of life and emotions, in which agriculture and art go hand in hand ».
