The art of Francisco de Goya conquers Andalusia

The wide entrance of the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Granada exhibits from last June 22 until June 20 a display of cutting-edge technology to show Goya’s work through 40 high-definition projectors, displaying more than 1,000 images out of 35 giant screens five meters high, all synchronized with pieces of Spanish classical music by masters such as Albéniz, Falla, Granados and Boccherini.

The exhibition, titled #INGOYA, very much in line with the viral times of today, is a journey through the work of Francisco de Goya that would be impossible to carry out by gathering works in pictorial format since they are scattered in museums throughout the world. world.

The exhibition represents, in the words of its organizers, “a sublime union of art with new technologies that brings the figure of this brilliant painter closer to the general public and, especially, to the young generations”.

“It is an exquisite way of guiding us with the senses through his paintings where, from the beginning of the visit until the end, the public will be surrounded by a powerful and vibrant symphony of lights, colors and sounds without antecedents. intuitive and exciting to immerse yourself in the work of this master “, they assure.

The space and the design of the proposal are adapted to the necessary security measures in the context of the pandemic, since it takes place in a large enclosure with a capacity for 3,000 people that will be accessed by a maximum of 120, which guarantees that it is respected. the safety distance. The tour does not include any tactile element that involves manual interaction with the viewer and the use of a mask is mandatory.

It consists of more than a thousand images belonging to 150 paintings from 20 museums around the world, including the Metropolitan in New York, explains Yolanda Bergareche, director of the exhibition,

This immersive experience consists of two rooms: the introductory one and the “emotional” one, which constitutes the heart of the show.

The first of them is a didactic room that explains in a simple way the life and work of Francisco de Goya y Lucientes through five information panels and a schedule in which his paintings are exhibited and what was happening in the world when he painted them.

This introductory room gives way to the emotional room, which is the one that exhibits, through 40 projectors, the laser images of the painter’s creations in high quality. ‘The sunshade’, ‘The blind chicken’, ‘The Duchess of Alba’, ‘The pelele’, the pestles or ‘The burial of the sardine’ are just some of the 150 paintings present.

The magnitude of the panels in which these fragments of works or entire paintings are exhibited (five meters high) allows “to appreciate the painting in a way that until now could not be done”, points out the producer of the exhibition, Alfonso Mardones, for whom the initiative combines leisure and culture.

The Granada exhibition is not the only one in Andalusia that commemorates the anniversary of the Aragonese painter. In Córdoba, the exhibition ‘Las mujeres de Goya’ was inaugurated at the headquarters of the Cajasol Foundation, made up of 55 works from the artist’s large series of engravings “.

It contains “a forceful denunciation of the unjust situation of women at the time, a criticism that unfortunately still serves many aspects of our society despite the indisputable advances made in the battle for equality between men and women”, says Antonio Pulido, president of Cajasol.

Throughout this exhibition, you can see different female models “immortalized in a historical moment in which women lacked the recognized position they currently have in society.” These are brave women like Agustina de Aragón, fighters and supportive women, nonconformists and pioneers, like the bullfighter ‘La Pajuelera’.

Tour Spain and open up to the world

The experience can be enjoyed at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos de Granada from March 22 to June 20 and shows are scheduled between 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. This schedule will be flexible and will be adapted to the limitations and restrictions established by the health authorities as a result of the pandemic. The exhibition respects all the necessary measures for the prevention of contagion by Covid-19, taking place in a spacious hall that will be accessed by a maximum of 100-120 people at the same time, by appointment, respecting the distance between people and with periodic ventilation. After passing through Granada, the exhibition, in which the Andalusian Government collaborates, among other institutions, will arrive in Madrid next October, where it will remain for another three or four months. The idea is to continue touring Spain to, in a second phase, start the international tour.
