If I’m proud of something it’s my students, their progress and their way of observing the world, that’s why today I leave you with the texts of Lucero Fraustro, a talented writer who tells us about the power of art in life.
“Art -in all its possible presentations- is an open window on the most precise and intimate idea of oneself. Of course, it is optional to look within and embrace what we have become over time. Not all of us dare. And, certainly, it’s overwhelming how a melody, a film or a writer’s prose can touch our soul and stop the world we thought was so calm around us.
Why should we pay even the slightest attention to anything that threatens to hurt us or make us feel anything other than simple, comfortable happiness? Within this question, society tends to confuse the concept of art with that of entertainment. The difference between the two is that entertainment is a product with a specific purpose. By definition, it owes us something from the start. On the other hand, art owes us nothing. Rather, it demands of us, as artists and viewers, total vulnerability of mind and senses. Thus, we know that we are dealing with something beyond the beautiful and the earthly.
Pedro Lemebel, a Chilean writer, said in an interview “All the past makes me doubt, well boy, I don’t know if I dreamed it or lived it.” Although he was talking about childhood trauma, this sentence can cover any difficult life event. Everyone in their own way forgets, represses and silences the pain in the mind and heart. But appreciation of a single work of art could help us heal from the roots.
As a society, we should bet on more than just entertainment. Even for more than a life full of artificial happiness. You must lose the fear of truly feeling. Dare to weep for joy and laugh in the midst of misery. And she accepts that, having hit rock bottom, it’s time to let go. The resilience gained is an incalculable achievement. It reminds us that human beings can be as beautiful as they are unpleasant. And it is, through that same duality, that only art is able to bring us closer to that degree of elevation and wholeness”.
