The arrival of Uber to Tucumán (Argentina), generated the protest of the taxi sector
Taxi drivers from San Miguel de Tucumán in Argentina, protested in front of the Deliberative Council of the capital, upon hearing the news that Uber would arrive in the province.
The taxi drivers cut off traffic at the intersections of Monteagudo and San Martín streets, where they were received by some councilors to whom they delivered a note with the concerns generated by the arrival of the transnational firm.
Councilor José Luis Coronel, president of the Transportation Commission explained the demands of the taxi drivers:
“The taxi drivers presented us with their demands, among which is included, that Uber not be allowed to disembark in the province. Although it would come with a parcel service, they start with that and then go for more ”.
The mayor questioned the lack of legality of the Uber application:
“They do not have municipal or labor legislation that allows them to function. First, it attacks the taxi drivers’ job source and secondly, we don’t know what security Uber would give the passenger ”.
