The Army’s Plan to Take Control of Mexico’s Air Institutions: A Threat to the Country’s Rule of Law

Several months have passed in which the Army, through the Executive, has made clear its desire to control each of the country’s air institutions, including Servicios Aéreos a la Navegación (Seneam), which already has a reform proposal. to be controlled by the army; the Federal Civil Aeronautics Agency (AFAC), directed by the retired general, Miguel Enrique Vallín Osuna; the Santa Lucía airport, directed by the retired General, Isidoro Pastor Román; the International Airport of Mexico City (AICM), directed by the retired vice admiral, Carlos Ignacio Velásquez Tiscareño and, soon, the Tulum airport (currently under construction), and it is in doubt, because it is not yet very clear or confirmed , the northern ADN airport in Monterrey, which places the military forces geographically and strategically located in the Center of Mexico, in the North and in the South of the country to have total air control.

From what can clearly be seen, the intention is for the Army to eventually control the country’s air operations and the AFAC to be the only official entity authorized to authorize air personnel, through the psychophysical examinations and administrative procedures required for revalidation. and certification of licenses and permits.

And to top it off, the Army seeks to create a military airline that seeks to take full control of the Mexican airlines, through totally unfair and unbalanced competition by giving subsidies and privileges to its project.

It is clear that the tenant of the Palace seeks to privilege the Armed Forces, so that eventually they are at his command, putting the country’s rule of law at risk.

Less than 14 months before the end of this six-year term, we can only hope that this aberration does not consolidate, that the rule of law prevails and, above all, that the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation is respected.
