In a joint operation, the National Police and the Colombian Navy achieved significant progress in the fight against a criminal organization linked to the FARC dissidents, led by leader Iván Mordisco.

According to official sources, on October 4, 2024, the authorities seized at least 100 60-millimeter mortar grenades, more than 15,000 cartridges, four motorcycle spells, a machine gun, a rifle and 30 boxes with shrapnel and black powder in the department of Caquetá. The arsenal of weapons was hidden in a cove to be used against the security forces and the civilian population.

The operation is part of the security forces’ ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal armed groups operating in the country. The seizure of this armory represents a serious blow to the organization that has been spreading terror in the region for months.

The operation began to take shape after the capture of alias El Indio, accused of being responsible for the terrorist attack against the Cartagena del Chairá police station, on September 14, 2024, which left five injured: four civilians and a police officer. Later, the investigation was strengthened with the capture of alias Mono Curub, in an urban area of ​​the same municipality.

“We frustrated the intentions of the ‘Carolina Ramírez’ structure to attack the communities”reads the official statement from the Ministry of Defense. Likewise, the authorities confirmed the capture of two members of the armed group.

At the time of their arrest, the subjects declared that they were forcibly recruited by the Armando Ríos first structure of the Amazonas Block, which is associated with the FARC dissidents.

In the process, the authorities seized several weapons, including two assault rifles, seven magazines, more than 700 bullet cartridges, two multipurpose vests and two rifle holders.

With the operation, the authorities recognized that they dealt a strong blow to alias Iván Mordisco, known for his leadership in the FARC dissidents, a group that has remained active despite the peace agreements signed in 2016. In addition, they are working to locate and capture the leaders of these organizations, with the purpose of restoring peace and security in the most affected areas.

“We reinforce the force by carrying out different offensive tasks in this territory to reduce the capabilities of the armed structure,” said Colonel Pedro Alexander Lancheros Ramos, commander of the Eastern Specific Command.

For his part, the Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez, said that we must “highlight the result that has occurred in the rural area of ​​Cartagena del Chairá. An offensive by the Public Force allowed the discovery of an important war arsenal in the El Diamante village, belonging to the Carolina Ramírez structure, which is a faction of the illegal group led by alias Iván Mordisco.”

In that sense, he said that the seizure of these weapons not only represents an operational success, but also sends a clear message that the security forces are committed to the eradication of violence and organized crime in the country. Operations will continue in different regions to ensure that these groups cannot continue to operate with impunity.

“It is important and that is why I want to highlight it, because of what this seizure means for the protection of the civilian population and the Public Force itself.given that this criminal organization has no qualms about using weapons of this nature,” he concluded his intervention from San Vicente del Caguán.
