Earlier this week, the Army Education Corps which was established on June 1, 1921 as the Royal Army Education Corps in Belgaum, Karnataka, completed its 100th anniversary.
History of the AEC
On June 1, 1947, it was renamed the Indian Army Education Corps, and when India became a Sovereign Republic on January 26, 1950, the decision to drop titles like Royal or Indian as the prefix for Indian units and corps was was taken.
This meant that the Indian Army Education Corps received another designation – and on November 1, 1950, it became the Army Educational Corps.
What is the role of the AEC?
He has a very critical role to play in educating troops by training them not only in regional / foreign languages but also in map reading skills. He is also involved in improving the educational standards of the troops through non-formal educational means such as the Indira Gandhi National Open University and the National Institute of Open Education.
