New York After almost twenty years on two ramshackle jetties in the Hudson River, the New Yorker Messe wants „Armory Show“ finally move. A few blocks further south, in the light-flooded congress center Javits Center, which opened in 1986 and was designed by the architecture firm IM Pei & Partners. In the spring of 2021, this huge complex will have completed a major expansion and modernization for over 1.5 billion dollars.

The Javits Center is well connected to the subway network and is very close to the brand new high-rise district of Hudson Yards with its top restaurants, the High Line and the Chelsea gallery district. At the same time, the fair is moving its date to September 9th to 12th. “September is a great time of year in New York, we want to coordinate with the galleries’ fall openings,” says director Nicole Berry.

Some important smaller fairs like the „Art Show“ the dealer association ADAA and also the hip one „Independent Art Fair“who were previously part of Armory Arts Week, are planning to stick to the March date in 2021.
