The Minister of Science and Technology of the Nation, Daniel Filmus, said that the vaccine developed by Argentina to prevent the spread of coronavirus will be ready by “end of 2022” and praised the work of the scientific community during the pandemic.
“There are four vaccine developments that are taking place”, highlighted the official during a meeting by zoom with the members of the Science Commission of the Senate of the Nation.
According to the minister, Argentina “is in a position to finish the pre-clinical stage in a couple of vaccines, begin the stage of clinical studies and have positive results by the end of 2022.”
“When we have the vaccine we will not only be in a position to take advantage of it ourselves, but also to export it ”, andemphasized.
In addition, it indicated that “It is a pride that there are only two countries in the region, Brazil and Argentina, that produce the vaccine.”
“It is going to be necessary to revaccinate or give booster shots for a while. And our vaccines are not necessarily going to replace those that come from outside ”, he indicated.
Finally, the official he praised “the work of the scientific community in Argentina during the coronavirus pandemic.”
“They have developed respirators, screening kits, and now vaccines. The chinstraps that most people wear are the product of a development by Conicet with universities and SMEs. And they are not only used here, but they are also exported ”, he highlighted.
The main objective that we have for the next two years is to place Science and Technology above the electoral calendars, as a true State policy, with a medium and long-term perspective.
