The Argentine Ortíz wants to confirm the resurgence of America in the Clausura

MEXICO SOCCER

Mexico City, Apr 5 (EFE) .- Argentine coach Fernando Ortíz hopes to confirm the resurgence of the Águilas del América in his interim role at the head of the team next Saturday against Juárez, on the thirteenth day of the Clausura 2022 Mexican soccer tournament which starts this Thursday.

Ortíz, who replaced the fired Santiago Solari, directed his first game with the Águilas on March 5 and lost on the ninth day against the Rayados de Monterrey.

That disaster is the only one in his history with America, with which he has a record of one defeat, one draw and two wins achieved in the last two days.

The retired defender took the Eagles, the winningest team in Mexico with 13 league titles, in last place in the standings and is now fourteenth, one point away from entering the playoff zone.

In addition, Ortiz has strengthened the group of players who seemed to no longer support Solari. In last Saturday’s 0-1 victory against Necaxa on matchday twelfth, the footballers joined in a hug with Ortíz after Chilean Diego Valdés scored, something that shows that the Argentine has the locker room on his side.

The match against Juárez, last in the table, seems like the perfect opportunity for Ortíz and company to enter play-off positions and confirm the resurgence of the Águilas, who with a good run in the last days of the tournament could be considered candidates for the title .

The thirteenth day will begin on Thursday with the visit of Necaxa to the champion Atlas. On Friday, Puebla will host Pumas UNAM and Mazatlán will host Cruz Azul.

On Saturday, San Luis will host León, Guadalajara’s Toluca and Santos Laguna’s Monterrey. On Sunday, Querétaro and Tigres UANL will face each other and on Monday the date will end with Pachuca-Tijuana.
