The Argentine national football team wasted two valuable points in its qualifying campaign for the 2022 World Cup in South America, and fell in a 1/1 draw with its guest Paraguay Thursday evening, Friday morning, in the third round of the qualifiers.
And the Argentine national team raised its score to seven points to lead the qualifying table temporarily, by one point ahead of their Brazilian and Ecuadorian counterparts, noting that the latter opened the matches of this round of qualifiers with a precious 3-2 victory over their Bolivian host earlier Thursday evening.
The Brazilian team can be alone in the lead if it wins against its Venezuelan guest at the end of the matches of this round on Friday evening.
At the “La Bombonera” stadium in Buenos Aires, the two teams played largely even in the first half, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Paraguay was the first to score by Angel Romero from a penalty kick in the 21st minute, and the Argentine national team tied with a goal scored by Nicolas Gonzalez in the 41st minute.
In the second half, the referee canceled a goal by Lionel Messi, captain of the Argentine national team (Tango dancers) in the 58th minute due to a mistake before the goal.
And the Argentine national team failed to translate their superiority during this half into goals, and the match ended in a draw.
