The Argentine Football Association confirmed today, Friday, that the country’s national midfielder Ezequiel Palacios fractured a bone in the lower back during the match in which the team drew 1-1 with Paraguay in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers last night.
Palacios was injured while competing for a high ball with Angel Romero in the first half of the match that was held in Buenos Aires, and then Giovanni Le Celso participated as his substitute.
And Lou Celso executed a corner kick, after which his colleague Nicolas Gonzalez scored the equalizer for the home side.
The Argentine Federation did not mention how long Palacios, 22, of the German Bayer Leverkusen player, will be sidelined due to injury.
“The player suffered a direct injury in the lower back, and it was confirmed that he had a broken bone,” the union said in a statement.
In the next round, Argentina will go out to play Peru next Tuesday, while Paraguay returns to host bottom-of-the-table Bolivia.
