The area renovated in the first half of 2021 at the Guacimeta airport, in the main terminal (T1), for the control of travelers from the United Kingdom, will be the subject of a new extension in a few weeks, according to official sources. Land that currently serves as a transit point for vehicles will be used.
In principle, for these works it is contemplated to use a disbursement of just over 335,200 euros, a sum that makes it clear that the works take into account the needs of the application of ‘Brexit’.
At present, a specific corridor has already been set up for passengers on flights arriving from Great Britain, as well as posts for the National Police to carry out passport control. Specific spaces have also been set up for the Civil Guard. In addition, special doors, equipped with electronic means, have been installed to control final access to the general baggage claim hall.
Usually, the connections with the United Kingdom suppose the annual movement of almost 1.5 million travelers, at least considering the statistical estimates made official in 2019 and the preceding years. In fact, until the pandemic, Great Britain has been the point of origin for almost half of the tourism that arrives in Lanzarote.
There are no special measures in T2, the exclusive terminal for inter-island flights.
