The oil spill area in the Butakovsky Bay of the Khimki reservoir reached 22.9 thousand square meters. m, water samples revealed an excess of the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) of petroleum products by more than a thousand times, according to website Rosvodresursov.
An oil spill was discovered on June 25 when examining the Grachevka (Chernavka) river, which flows into the Khimki reservoir. Now the oil slick is localized by several rows of booms. According to preliminary information, the storm sewer collector, which operates MUE Khimvodostok, became a source of pollution. The death of fish and birds from hypoxia due to wastewater mixed with petroleum products has been recorded.
As the reason for the spill, it was indicated that the Khimki city administration did not comply with the court decision on the installation of treatment facilities. “Enforcement of the court decision would prevent or minimize pollution of the drinking water reservoir of Moscow. Our specialists are now working on a round-the-clock response to the oil spill, carrying out reorganization, ”the head of the Moscow-Oksk Basin Water Administration Vakhtang Astakhov reported to the head of Rosvodresursy Dmitry Kirillov.
“In the future, Rosvodresursy will consider the possibility of compensation for damage and spent money on the elimination of oil spills from the identified culprit of pollution of water bodies,” the report said.
