Jakarta –
Head of State Capital Authority (IKN) Nusantara Bambang Susantono stated that the area of the new capital city in East Kalimantan has an area of 256,142 hectares (Ha). The area is four times larger than DKI Jakarta and three times that of Singapore.
“The area (IKN) is 256,000 hectares, 4 times larger than Jakarta, about 3 times larger than Singapore,” said Bambang at the Mandiri Investment Forum event at Plaza Mandiri, Thursday (2/2/2023).
On the other hand, the population of the IKN city is also targeted to only be filled by 1.9 million people. “Because we will have a city that is all in balance with nature and people,” he said.
The overall area of the IKN will be built in stages until 2045. Currently the government is focusing on building the central government core area (KIPP) until 2024 which covers 6,671 hectares.
Bambang said 65% of the IKN area would be left as tropical forest. Only 25% of the total area that will be built is urban and 10% is used as parks and food production areas.
“Only a quarter will be built, 65% will be a tropical forest, a forest city, jungle city and 10% will be a green area,” he said.
Therefore, Bambang denied that the construction of the Nusantara IKN would damage the environment. “Wrong! Because here we will reforest. Now this is a production forest, we will make the production forest a tropical forest again,” he said.
IKN Nusantara is said to have 9 economic regions, each of which has a theme. Besides KIPP, there is also an economic and financial center 17,206 Ha, renewable energy area 6,753 Ha, tourism and leisure 9,761 Ha, education services 12,067 Ha, Innovation and research 3,720 Ha, agro-commodities, trade & logistics 2,986 Ha, agriculture industry 4,299 Ha, fishery and agriculture 9,084 Ha.
