The area of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil has declined even faster over the past year. This is due to tree felling and fires.
The Brazilian National Space Research Institute said that between July last year and August this year, the forest area has decreased by about 11 thousand square kilometers. This is 10% more than in a similar period before.
Representatives of the Brazilian government have also paid increased attention to the problem. And Vice President Hamilton Mourao promised to work with the international community and the United States. He said at a press conference that the newly elected President of the United States, Joe Biden, has visited the country several times and possibly a constructive dialogue on this issue.
