Imagine THE media library of tomorrow. It is on this subject that users, agents and more generally the Angevins were invited to reflect at the start of 2021. “The City, which has made it one of the priorities of the mandate, has decided to renovate and enlarge the Toussaint media library, an emblematic facility for local Angevin culture”, recalls Nicolas Dufetel, Deputy for Culture and Heritage. It must be said that the 6300 m² building, 44 years old, has lived well. The time has therefore come to bring it up to standard, to improve its technical and energy performance and its accessibility. The project also includes the construction of a new wing, perpendicular to the famous glass cube, in place of technical rooms and part of the indoor car park. What significantly improve the comfort of visitors and working conditions, and redistribute the spaces by providing in particular entertainment and exhibition rooms, as well as a gallery dedicated to heritage collections…
The exteriors are not forgotten. “The entrance to the library by rue Toussaint will be preserved with a redesigned garden, on one level, around a green amphitheater, explains the deputy. The other novelty is the creation of direct access to the Beaux-Arts garden, in order to allow the media library to reach this cultural square made up of the museum, the David-d’Angers gallery and the Urban Retreat. .”
The construction was entrusted, unanimously by the city council on February 28, to the Nantes agency Tetrarc Architectes. As for the works, estimated at €15.9 million, they should start at the start of the 2023 school year for delivery at the end of 2025.
