Neyyatinkara (Thhiruvananthapuram) ∙ During the demolition of an illegally erected arch across the street, the mother and daughter of a passenger on a scooter were seriously injured. Only yesterday the police registered a case of a serious accident and violation of the law that took place near Neyyatinkara Olathanni on Sunday afternoon. Biju’s wife, Lekha (44), a nurse from Pozziyur Family Health Center, and daughter Anusha, a 10th grade student from Vishwabharati school, were injured in Poozhikunn.
Lekha’s lips and chin were deeply cut. There is also a crack in her skull. Her teeth were loose. Her lungs were also damaged and Anusha’s nose was the main wound. Both are being treated in a private hospital in the capital.
The reason for the accident is that the arch was removed without obstructing traffic on the busy road. It is clear in the CCTV footage that many vehicles are passing under the archway during the shift.
Lekha’s relatives said the matter was brought to the attention of Neyyatinkara police on Sunday, but no cases were recorded. Subsequently, after gaining media attention, a case was filed. The arch was erected on the occasion of the Onam celebrations organized by the Navakerala Arts and Sports Club. The case is against the person renting the arch and the club officers.
