“This year, due to the limitations of Covid-19, we will admit fewer participants than usual, but we are very happy to be able to provide this growth opportunity to the 30 most creative and most motivated high school students directly from Latvia. Young people at the Young Media Sharks camp will not only learn from the leaders in the field, but will also create content on current topics in the Sigulda area. This year, the camp will also have a Young Media Sharks studio, where we will broadcast interviews with the camp’s lecturers to a wider audience, “says Ilona Bičevska, the author of the camp’s idea.
The camp is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Latvia, thus promoting a strong and independent media in Latvia. Promoting the right to freedom of expression, as well as support for professional journalism and the media, is one of the Netherlands’ priorities. The Dutch Ambassador to Latvia, Hubert Jan Baile de Vru, believes that the training of today’s new generation of journalists is the basis for tomorrow’s strong and professional journalists. The camp is also supported by Sigulda municipality, Baltic Media Center of Excellence, TVnet and Ideal.
You can apply for the camp on the project website YoungMediaSharks.eu until 11 October. Young people will be evaluated for their creative task and motivation.
The joint Youth Media Education project includes more than just an educational camp. Throughout the year, the Young Media House team organizes a variety of peer events, creates youth programs and publishes the magazine “Choose”. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany is a partner and long-term supporter of youth media content creation.
