You would almost think that the rumor story repeats itself. Apple is reportedly preparing to refocus its TV strategy. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has previously reported on the development of a smart home display that will serve as a central control element for the connected home. This device will be equipped with the voice assistant Siri and artificial intelligence and could be the harbinger of a new generation of Apple products in the home.
The current Apple TV 4K box, which can be connected to any television using an HDMI cable, already uses processors from the iPhone family. The device runs on the tvOS operating system, which has its own app store. Users can use various streaming services, play games or run fitness applications.
According to Gurman’s information, the new smart home display could serve as the basis for other products. He suggests that a TV screen will also become part of this product family could. Because many media outlets are certainly selling this as fact: Gurman writes that if Apple is successful, it could revisit the idea of an Apple television. We’ll probably check that first.
Personally, I don’t believe in this rumor. For me personally, the Apple TV as such is the best streamer on the market, I can’t imagine a complete screen – the market seems too competitive and low-margin to me.
